Step 1: Choose a great blog platform

Want to jump straight in to the answer ? The best blogging platform for the most people is definitely WordPress.

However, Choosing where you want to build your blog is pretty much the first thing you have to do. I’m going to take a leap and assume you’ve heard of WordPress, and this is the platform I advocate. Evidently, It’s massive.

It’s by far one of the biggest blogging platforms in the world, with countless plugins and add-ons and almost infinite ways to design and layout your blog.

There are more than 82 million active users on WordPress = a lot, basically. However, there are other blogging platforms which also serves the purpose.

Top 5 blogging platforms for 2021:

  1. Wix –  Best blog builder for beginners.
  2. WordPress – Most customisable blog platform.
  3.  Squarespace –  Best for boosting E-commerce sales.
  4. Medium – Best for building an audience.
  5. LinkedIn – Best for attracting B2B prospects.

Step 2: Choose a web host for your blog

What is web hosting:

Web hosting or simply a service that allows organisations and individuals to post a website or web page onto the internet.

Every site needs web hosting. Simply said web hosting is where the files, information and content that create your website live. These files are stored on a remote computer known as host. Hence the term web hosting.

When you visit a website the files that create it are shown within your web browser. So it’s vitally important that you choose a good reliable web host that suits the needs of your website. For instance, web hosting is a rented space on a remote computer, it is normally charged in monthly instalments or annually.

Step 3 : Set-up a blog on your own domain name

Domain: The domain is basically the URL of your website. Examples: Google (Google.com is the domain), Facebook (Facebook.com is the domain). See? Simple!

Whether for business or strictly social purposes, a big part of building a website and blog is about branding. Unfortunately, on free platforms like Blogger.com that have millions of users and blog posts, it’s difficult to stand out from the crowd, even if your blog has a really great name.

That’s because in addition to the name of your blog you will have the branding of the free platform you are using as part of your domain name. So, instead of having “example.com” the site would be “example.blogger.com”; or whatever the name of the free platform you are using is.

Step 4 : Design your new blog

Let’s make your blog look exactly how you want it to. To choose a new theme, you can head to Appearance > Themes and install free WordPress themes and select according to your topic/niche.

Choose something that looks professional and pretty easy to customise. WordPress also has this awesome feature that allows you to change themes with just a few clicks. So if you want to change your current blog template, you can just switch to another one without losing any precious content or images.

On top of that, it should be easy to navigate if you want people to stick around. If it’s tricky and difficult to move around it, people won’t stay. After all design is a subjective art; meaning everyone likes different things.
